with a bit of exposed wood at the tip of one ear

prompting "cheerful" to pop up

all the more so a sailor/whaler made one

Monogrammed in ink at lower left, and "Boston" at lower right. And it was in Boston that I found it. C. 1830s 40s I believe, and a lovely gift if ever I saw one. 7 7 8" x 4 13 16". Very good antique condition, color just gorgeous.
