19th C. Tin Book Shaped Box in Original Paint rescue I believe it is carved

I believe it is carved of burl wood and is a gorgeous warm honey color (possibly maple)

with a nice surface patina

and as such I think it is just perfect

and then these shiny silver shapes (aluminum I believe

and simple but perfect detailing for a front flap with vertical row of buttons and a seam across the toe

19th C. Tin Book Shaped Box in Original Paint rescue I believe it is carvedSmall, and rare, this tole (painted tin) book shaped box is still holding onto some of its original red paint on the covers and spine and yellow orange on the pages. Whether made as a snuff box or a match holder I am not completely sure, but definitely 19th c. and if you, like me, love all things book shaped, and also boxes of all kinds, a sweet little addition to a collection. 3 1 8 t x 2 1 8 x 1 3 16. Aged, as evident, with just a little separation
