The reaper designed by Patrick Bell (1799 1869) was the first practical mechanical reaper and incorporated several features that are still seen on modern combine harvesters. Cyrus McCormick patented a modern mechanical reaper in 1834. Obed Hussey (1792 1860) also designed a version of the reaper.
