Unscrew the black screw and the top of the Old Iron Thread Stand removes easily and can be stowed conveniently inside the Sewing Machine case for storage and portability

A small C-Clamp works as well to squeeze the open end and flare it

make a little border around the hole so you have a guide with which to use for subsequent stitching
